Area Information

Hersonissos

Just 25 km of Iraklion is the most cosmopolitan place of Crete, Hersonissos.

A city with many late 20th century buildings and hotels. It keeps the name of the ancient city that was located in the place that the harbour of Hersonisos is today.

The village of Old Hersonissos, located within a small distance to the south was built due to the fear of the pirates, that forced the inhabitants of the village to move inlands.

Near Old Hersonisos there are two picturesque small villages, Piskopiano and Koutouloufari, overlooking the busy resort of Port Hersonissos.

The harbour of Hersonisos is famous for its night life as there are many bars, restaurants and tavernas next to the beach.

The neighbouring villages offer quiet and peaceful environment for your vacation. Visitors to the area of Hersonisos will find a large number of shops with jewels, furs, clothing etc.

Hersonissos is known as the most organized tourist destination in Crete. It is also known for its high quality hotels, conference infrastructures and the natural beauty of its coasts. Mass tourism, beautiful beaches and the rich nightlife only constitute one side of the coin "Hersonissos". Its other side, which is less acknowledged, includes the pristine mainland, where many historical monuments and landscapes of exceptional beauty await to be discovered.
